Welcome to Davenport & Bettendorf!
100,000 residents strong, Davenport is the hub of of a 400,000 strong Quad Cities, along with neighboring Bettendorf and the Illinois cities of Moline, East Moline and Rock Island. It is Iowa's third-largest city. The seat of Scott County, the community of 100,000 was founded in 1836 by Antoine LeClaire and named after his friend Colonel George Davenport following the signing of a peace treaty by Sac chief Keokuk and Gen. Winfield Scott, ending the Black Hawk War.
Several well-known annual music festivals take place in Davenport. Notable festivals are the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival, The Mississippi Valley Fair, and the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival, dedicated to Davenport native Bix Beiderbecke. An internationally known seven-mile (11 km) foot race called the Bix 7 is run during the festival.
Davenport won the "2007 City Livability Award" for RiverVision, a bi-state collaboration between Davenport and Rock Island to transform the Mississippi River’s edge into one of the most compelling waterfronts in the nation. It is also home to the amazing Figge Art Museum.
With unparalleled opportunities for dining, entertainment -- don't miss the Isle of Capri and Rhythm City Casinos, as well as Penguin's Comedy Club -- recreation and more, not to mention some breathtaking views of the mighty Mississippi River, the area of Davenport & Bettendorf is an ideal stop along Iowa's Great River Road.
